Singaporean Films Turned Novels
Sunday, June 22, 2008, 9:50 PM
We were at the lovely Pod at the NLB last Friday afternoon to attend the launch of the novelisations of three Singaporean films --- Eating Air, 4:30 and 12 Stories. Enoch of firstfruits looked spiffy in a tie ... :-). The covers of the three books were movie stills from the films --- very nice and gritty, two with sepia and aged green undertones, the third very white and graphic.

The panel discussion saw Jasmine Ng, Kelvin Tong, Ng Yi-Sheng, and Dr Yeo Wei Wei talking about the films and the novelisations, and the creative decisions that had to be made. There was one man speaking at length (was there a question there?). All this silhouetted against the very bright landscape outside the Pod --- it was so glaring I sat there with my eyelids almost fused together, wishing my glasses were the darkest of sunglasses instead. Photographers EVERYWHERE, before, during and after the event.

Took pics of my friends Lynette and Meena with Dr Yeo Wei Wei. A nice way to spend an afternoon, in a place which gives books the respect due to them.
